Social Responsibility

At Spinneys, we take our environmental and social responsibility very seriously. We always strive to reduce any negative impact and improve the environment we live in through supporting a variety of vital projects.

We are actively involved in promoting green initiatives, to ensure our involvement in reducing our carbon footprint thus contributing in preserving our planet’s resources. Such initiatives include the introduction of reusable bags with creative designs, shopping trolleys and hand baskets made of biodegradable PET plastic materials, the use of reusable papers in our weekly and monthly printed communications and the reduce of paper and label usage thanks to more advanced technologies. Internally, we have installed energy saving light bulbs in all our branches and automated power saving mode for computers and printers.

On the other hand, we banned smoking inside its stores. In fact, exposure to smoke can jeopardize the goods’ quality and preservation conditions which might also lead to their contamination. Furthermore, smoking is not only unpleasant for non-smokers and reformed smokers; it is also of concern given the number of children, pregnant women and physically ill people who just want to enjoy a clean and risk-free shopping experience at Spinneys.

At Spinneys, we believe in dedication to quality, value and service. This is also reflected in our commitment to the community we are serving and supporting. Our community work provides social responsibilities in addition to funding, sponsoring and assistance to hundreds of charitable events and causes.

Donations & Charity Work

Being responsible towards our society is in Spinneys’ DNA. Donation campaigns to support local NGOs such as The Children Cancer Center, SOS, The Lebanese Red Cross and more, are launched several times per year, aiming to support those NGOs’ causes and stand by the Lebanese communities. In addition, Spinneys never missed the chance to turn a Christmas or Ramadan or other occasions’ activations into an opportunity to help people in need and lead by example when it comes to creative yet meaningful and results-driven charity initiatives.

Zero Hunger Zero Waste

A firm believer in the importance of promoting awareness on the urging consequences of the food waste issue socially and environmentally, we at Spinneys have partnered with leading NGO to reduce food waste and hunger, we distribute since 2016, around 500 tons of fruits, vegetables, and bakery goods per year to different organizations around Lebanon that take care of underprivileged individuals.

Sharing Profit

As a Lebanese company, we feel the responsibility to give back to our society; hence we make sure to support a number of local NGOs in various possible ways. Throughout the year, we share the profits from our private label products’ sales with NGOs, and encourage our customers to take part in making a change through engaging campaigns.

Bottle Recycle Vending Machines

Since 2011, 2 million bottles are recycled every year via Reverse Vending Machines set up at Spinneys branches. We make sure to take advantage of every opportunity to motivate our customers to preserve the environment and sort their bottles and cans.

Eco Bags

Years ago, Spinneys was the first supermarket chain in Lebanon to launch eco-bags, and in 2019 we took things a step further by being the first to introduce reusable sackcloth produce bags for fruits and vegetables.

100% Recycled

Environmental responsibility applies to every aspect of the shopping experience at Spinneys. Our plastic bags are made of 100% recycled materials as well as our trolleys and baskets that we import from the EU.

Charitable Activities

At Spinneys, we put all our efforts to make a difference in our local community and lead by example, by funding and organizing every year hundreds of charitable activities. From boxes donations to underprivileged across Lebanon, to charitable Iftars and Christmas activations, our local community is our first and foremost priority.

We believe that educating the youth is key to achieve a better tomorrow in every aspect of the society. Faqra’s “My School Pulse Marathon” students’ activity is sponsored by Spinneys every year, in addition to our very own Green Festival launched in 2019, educating the new generation to be environmentally responsible. Moreover, on several occasions, we supported kids granting them school scholarships.

International high level hygiene policies are properly implemented, accompanied by trainings for our food handling staff and regular audits to guarantee compliance.
